Honolulu Late 1980s
Throwback Thursday | Yesterday’s Hawaii.
Starting this week, I will be publishing old photos of Hawaii that were mostly taken by me over the years between the 1970s and 2000s. Many will be scans taken from pictures originally shot with film. For this first collection, we go back to 1988 as I walked around Waikiki and elsewhere in Honolulu with my old Minolta XD5 35mm SLR camera.
Most of the images in this first post are quite familiar and unchanged to this very day. Waikiki Beach is still here as is the abandoned World War I Natatorium, Diamond Head, surf breaks and the Honolulu city skyline. It is only the latter that has seen much change with 1988 as more high rises have been constructed in many areas of Honolulu.
